Date: November 4, 2015

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Nov. 04, 2015) - The AAU Boys Basketball National Championships and Super Showcase events will return to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in 2016, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) announced today.

The union\\\'s marquee basketball event, which attracted more than 6,000 athletes and over 1,000 college coaches to Central Florida in 2013, was held in Orlando for 17 consecutive seasons before moving to the Kentucky Exposition Center (Louisville, Ky.) for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

"The move away from Orlando was a learning experience for us," said James Parker, AAU Director of Sports. "We discovered that our coaches and traveling support groups value vacation destinations and the accompanying entertainment options suited to young teenagers and their families."

After a two-year hiatus from the Orlando area, many of the nation\\\'s top prep basketball players will once again return to Central Florida to compete in one of the most prestigious youth basketball events in the country.

The AAU National Championships are the proving ground for the next generation of college and professional superstars. A number of current NBA stars, including Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat), Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers), Chandler Parsons (Dallas Mavericks) and reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), competed in these events as youth athletes.

Sports For All, Forever

The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sports. During its early years, the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic Games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of "Sports for All, Forever," is shared by nearly 800,000 participants and over 150,000 volunteers.
